Skyley Networks releases ZigBee SDK V2.0, certified compliant to ZigBee 2006 Specification
Skyley Networks releases ZigBee SDK V2.0, certified compliant to ZigBee 2006 Specification
TOKYO, Japan, November 02, 2007
Skyley Networks, Inc. today announces the release of the ZigBee Development Kit "ZigBee SDK V2.0" on November 5th. This product has been certified ZigBee Compliant Platform to the ZigBee 2006 Specification by the ZigBee Alliance.
The "ZigBee SDK V2.0" can be used for developing mesh networks and building prototypes, and it has been leading the field in receiving the ZigBee Compliant Platform certification with Skyley Networks as a software developer. With the ZigBee technology excelling in low energy consumption and low cost, manufacturers of electronics equipment, electric appliances, building and home automation products will be able to develop their applications in areas like sensors and remote controllers using the "ZigBee SDK V2.0".
The price of the "ZigBee SDK V2.0" is USD 980.00. Skyley Networks, Inc. is expecting to reach a sales target of 300 by the next fiscal year.
ZigBee Compliant Platform (ZCP)
The ZigBee Compliant Platform (ZCP) Program applies to modules or platforms which are intended to be used as building blocks for end products. Tested products will receive a confirmation letter granting the use of the term "ZigBee Compliant Platform". Note that scope of certification testing may differ if the system contains already certified components.

Compliance with the new ZigBee 2006 Specification, with growth of ZigBee market anticipated
The ZigBee Software Development Kit "ZigBee SDK V2.0" is compliant to the ZigBee 2006 Specification. Compared to the previous ZigBee 2004 Specification, the following functionalities have been enhanced in the ZigBee 2006 Specification, allowing for a more widespread use of ZigBee in different market segments.
New functionalities in ZigBee 2006 Specification (compared to ZigBee 2004 Specification)
1) "Broadcast function" options available:
In the ZigBee 2004 Specification, it was only possible to use the "broadcast function" to send to "all devices", but 3 options, namely, "routers only", "end devices in sleep mode" and "all devices", are now available. It is also possible to send broadcast messages to specific devices with options like "excluding battery-operated devices" and "sending command messages only to device groups located on the first floor".
2) "Group function":
It is not possible for a device to join multiple groups.
3) "Persistent data" now supported:
For ZigBee devices used for building maintenance, it used to be that for scheduled electricity outages or temporary ones due to accidents or lightning, internal device data would become lost and network would therefore need to be reconstructed from the beginning. But with "persistent data" being supported now, it is now possible to recover back to the state before the outage just by turning the power back on.
4) Improvement in "network join functionality":
A ZigBee network is formed by first having the network controller called "coordinator" starting a network, and routers and end devices joining the network afterwards. Due to inadequacies in the information exchanged during the "network join process" in the ZigBee 2004 Specification, when there were many devices in the network, some devices might not be able to join the network despite many attempts to do so. With an improvement in the "network join process", it is now possible to determine correctly which parent device has reach the full capacity, enabling the construction of large-scale networks.
5) Addition of "network layer commands":
"Network layer commands" have been added for making the task of reconstructing networks easier in cases where the network fails due to unexpected problems like device failure.
6) Improvement in "automatic reporting of error state":
Automatic reporting on routing errors have been improved to give more detailed information to end users.
