Skyley Networks establishes technical tie up with Digi International -to launch a ZigBee/802.15.4 wireless market

Press Release
TOKYO, Japan, March 25, 2009

Skyley Networks, Inc. (based in Minato-ku Tokyo, with Hidekazu Umeda as representative CEO, capitalized at \63,952,500), has announced that it will cooperate with Digi International K. K. (based in Shibuya-ku Tokyo, with Joseph Dunsmore as President, a worldwide leader in the connect-ware product industry) to create ZigBee/802.15.4 and mesh network communication markets. In May, they will start jointly delivering their first product.

ZigBee is one of the wireless communication standards established by the ZigBee Alliance as a global standard specification. Its main features are low power consumption, low cost, and the simultaneous connection of multiple devices. It also supports the configuration of a mesh network. With these features, it will come to be accepted in a wide range of markets and is attracting interest from many different industries as the most promising practical wireless standard. In reality, however, Japan is lagging behind other countries in the full-scale practical implementation of ZigBee.

Based on its research into multi-hop wireless network technology for implementing P2P wireless communication, Skyley Networks is developing and offering next-generation P2P wireless network products that depend on no specific device, platform, or communication medium. Its products include the DECENTRA Advance wireless LAN mesh communication software, the SKSTACK PRO ZigBee PRO function set-compliant protocol stack, a ZigBee/802.15.4-compatible Sniffer (sniffer/network analyzer), and a network viewer.

Digi International offers drop-in network solutions for providing wireless communications for commercial network devices at locations where no wired infrastructure is available or customers' requirements cannot be satisfied. Its product line-up includes various types of hardware and software products as well as wireless modules, adapters, and gateways. The company was relatively early in starting research into ZigBee/802.15.4. Its XBee module for implementing low-cost, low-output mesh networks and point-to-multiple point features is central to drop-in networks.

The technical tie-up aims to promote public awareness of ZigBee and mesh network technology in Japan with both companies playing an equal role, with the aim of creating a market for ZigBee as soon as possible. The first product on their roadmap will be Skyley's SK Sniffer ZigBee-compatible packet analyzer, bundled with Digi's XBee and XBee-PRO ZB modules that are compatible with the ZigBee PRO function set and with products including these modules. This product will help engineers reduce their development and evaluation periods, thus speeding product entry into the market. This version of SK Sniffer is scheduled to be released in May of this year.
